My Teaching Philosophy:
My approach to teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that philosophy is an interactive discipline. My pedagogy is founded on principles of inclusivity and participation, and I greatly value collaboration and interaction with the students as a teaching method. The students learn from doing philosophy out loud; from thinking and talking through complex issues in a respectful atmosphere.
My overall goal is for the students to leave my classroom feeling empowered, both academically and personally. On an academic level, I want the students to leave with a sense of achievement because they have developed and improved their critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. On a personal level, I want the students to leave my classroom with a set of philosophical tools that can help them make sense of the imperfect world they live in. This empowerment comes from their newfound ability to connect complex philosophical ideas to their own lives and everyday practices. By treating philosophy as an interactive discipline, I aim to set students up for success, both in and outside my classroom.
